Hi !
I have this question:
I have VPS and i want to know if WHMSonic take a lot of CPU / Memory of my VPS ? I have now 2 customers and i want to know if can i let more people to use Shoutcast server or not. Because i don't want to make slow down the server. Thanks !
Hello,
In this answer, I will explain memory and cpu questions;
WHMSonic does not using CPU or Memory when running, the shoutcast and Autodj is using cpu.
What is the reasons for high cpu and memory usage:
- High Bitrate Limits ! It is most important option for load and memory usage if you keep high bitrate limits on the VPS then you will have load/memory problems in the future and you may setup only 10 shoutcast radios in the VPS.
My advise for VPS users, 64 KBPS Mono Bitrate limit, it's better then 128 bit stereo and also using less cpu/memory.
Second Reason:
AutoDJ, autodj is normally using too much cpu and memory. It is same on other shoutcast control panels. It is using server cpu to sending mp3 data's to shoutcast server.
If you keep high bitrate limits in AutoDJ configurations and if it's VPS you can only setup 2 or 3 autodj. We are strongly recommend real dedicated servers for AutoDJ. If you are not use AutoDJ then no problem.
So we are clear to understand high cpu and memory depending on your configurations and customer bitrate limits.
Your Question:
If you keep bitrate limits less, you can setup 15 or 20 radios to your VPS, again this is depending on your vps speed. If you let us know your VPS configurations ram,cpu we can tell you exactly limits, but the point is always keep bitrate limits less.
Example:
You have customer on this vps and their radio popular and more then 70+ listeners everytime so that means you can setup 5 or 10 radios maximum in the vps. And that means you should charge high prices which other people doing for popular radios due to their radios take a lots of cpu.
